THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a content leader who will be responsible for storytelling across our educator and administrator audiences on our social media channels.

Reporting to the Vice President, Social Media Strategy, the Director, Social Media Content will create and own our content calendar, which will be aligned to our overall social media unification strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a content strategy for storytelling on social media that:
  • Is aligned with the needs of educators and administrators as they help children read and learn to love reading.
  • Leverages the best practices and unique strengths of each social media platform (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok).
  • Drives awareness of and engagement in Scholastic programs and offerings while promoting an understanding of our values (philanthropic, DEIB, sustainability).
  • Leverages the strengths of our flagship IP and entertainment properties.
  • Establish a brand voice and visual style for Scholastic on social media that reflects the needs of our audiences and adheres to our brand guidelines.
  • Create a content calendar in partnership with each line of business:
  • Establish a partnership model with business lines for contributing to the calendar.
  • Participate in planning sessions for new content ideas and campaigns.
  • Develop a process for updating and honing the content calendar throughout the year.
  • Monitor marketplace trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities to maneuver the dynamic competitive landscape.
  • Iterate on the content calendar in a responsive fashion.
  • Partner with Scholastic teams who are instrumental to the experience we provide our audiences on social media:
  • Align with other subject matter experts across the company.
  • Collaborate with the Search and Paid Media Planning team to drive the interplay between paid and social media.
  • Work closely with our Customer Service Support team to provide them with the right content and tools to deliver real-time customer support.
  • Lead a team of social media content producers and coordinators:
  • Oversee the overall daily work schedule of the social media content team and ensure there is a process for prioritization and quality assurance amongst the team.
  • Select and manage outside specialist content vendors.
  • Foster a culture of high performance and positivity.
  • Create an environment of trust.
  • Drive organizational excellence.
  • Lead by example through actions and communications during periods of change.
  • Accept responsibility for delivery and quality.
  • Establish social media content processes and governance:
  • Assets are routed to the necessary stakeholders for internal approvals, feedback has been clearly communicated, and content meets our brand standards.
  • Utilize analytics, customer-driven insights, shifts in the market, and advancements in social media platforms to inform and iterate our approach to storytelling.
  • Ensure our social media content exceeds industry standards and our goals for engagement and revenue.
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve overall content performance.
  • Develop standards and best practices for social media content creation, management, maintenance, and governance.
  • Utilize and maintain our tools for content management, tagging, digital asset management, and project task calendaring.
  • Support the Vice President, Social Media Strategy as a contributor to the social media unification strategy and roadmap.
  • Own strategic social media projects. These could include:
  • Leading our foray onto new social media channels.
  • Leading day-to-day management of key social media campaigns.
  • Leading by example through actions and communications during periods of change.
  • Accepting responsibility for delivery and quality.
  • Be well-versed and attuned to the business models, opportunities, and best practices of social media platforms and modern brands. And help develop Scholastic’s overall social media competencies:
  • Deliver training, best practices, and tools to our internal stakeholders ensuring we are continuously improving while social media evolves.
  • Surface potential strategic alliances and partnerships.
  • Promote a culture of learning and development.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of competency and leadership at Scholastic:
  • Promote pace and energy within the team and lead by example.
  • Foster a strong culture that attracts and retains our talent.
  • Live and promote our values (philanthropic, DEIB, sustainability).
